Physical Education

At Gillamoor, we make sure that pupils are receiving the guideline 2 hours of PE each week. This includes swimming, which takes place in Terms 1a, 1b and 2a for Juniors and Terms 2b and 3a for Infants. Swimming takes place at Pickering Swimming Pool, where their coaches follow the Swim England progression. Swimming is held on a Monday.

In school, PE is taught by our specialist PE teacher, Mr Mulholland and a class teacher.  We make use of the local playing field whenever the weather permits, or will teach lessons on the school playground or in a classroom if the weather makes it unsafe.

Our teaching balances development of skills through practice and reflection, with knowledge of health and fitness. Non-participants in PE will be given focus cards to ensure they are engaged and identifying good examples from the class. PE is taught on a Monday and a Wednesday. All children need to have their PE kit in school every day in case of a scheduling change.
